Circa 1980.  Signed by Federico Fabbrini, born in Arezzo in 1920 and died in 2007.  This hand-made ceramic puppet was modeled after the medieval-age crusader knights still popular with Sicilian marionette troupes in the south of Italy.  Notice the animated facial expression and the elegant shape of the torso, wings and legs.  Fabbrini was one of the founding partners of Laboratorio Pesaro di Franco Bucci in 1961, having met and worked with Bucci in Germany for Villeroy & Boch, the behemoth German ceramic manufacturer at the time.  This item is the result of the original Fabbrini / Bucci collaboration.  Other items included a table they collaborated on and now on display in the MoMA of New York.  The puppet is presented in its own exquisite hand-made Italian pinewood case with glass panels in front and back that are removable.  Brand new in original box.  Net weight shown.  Overall dimensions : 8" x 7.25" x 3"d  Danger : glass has sharp edges, handle with care!  May be shipped without glass upon customer's request.
Fabbrini : "Who are these puppets, with the clinking of porcelain, seem to be making fun of?  They look at us as if they were jeering at our world stiffened in Reason.  They carry the weight of so many layers of history, yet their taste is impeccable : it does not cease to speak to us  .They overlook the stage of history, scramble His cards and try to confuse us with a full-scale invasion of the fantastic."
