Designed in the late 1970s and made by Tronconi of Milan in small batches, this lamp was the first of its kind to use the PL fluorescent bulb at the time when it was unheard of in North America.  The bulb itself is the main visual feature of the design.  The transformer is neatly housed in the cast metal base which is weighted to give the lamp a sturdy feel.  The housing, shade and small fittings are all custom-made for this model.  
Not UL or CSA rated.  Switch is on the cord.  Price is for each.
