Shiro Kuramata, Japan's most famous design personality, born 1934, died 1991, designed this salt and pepper set named Volume for Sointu of Japan in 1980. It was available in matte black and mirror-chrome.
Kuramata moved to Paris in 1988 and established a studio there. He died three years later in Tokyo at the age of 57.
